“An armed chick in search of red cubes”

If there's one word to define Kumoon, that's originality. This bizarre game mixes elements from puzzles with a first-person shooter where your main character is a chick.

Yes, you didn't misread it. One of those sweet, cute yellow chicks you see in cartoon movies. Beware though: this chick is armed to the teeth and willing to make his way along the 39 levels included in the game by clearing rooms one after the other. To clear rooms, you must knock down all the red cubes in it with the help of your weapons (revolver, shotgun or bazooka).

But easy as it sounds, Kumoon is certainly a fiddly game because the more bullets you use in clearing the room, the more negative points you get – and therefore the more unlikely you are to finish it successfully. The trick then is to clear the room with the fewest bullets possible, as well as using multiplying factors such as bouncing bullets on walls before actually hitting the red cubes.

Kumoon is certainly a very original game, with easy gameplay and very well done physics. Plus it doesn't require installation: simply unzip and play, and before you realize you'll be hooked on the little cute bazooka-chick!

Kumoon may not be the latest state-of-the-art game but it sure is an entertaining, fun game with many levels to challenge your strategic skills.

Kumoon is a hybrid of a third person shooter and a puzzle game. Player controls a chick that tries to knock down boxes in various rooms by shooting them with a revolver, shotgun or a bazooka. Kumoon won the first prize in the GameDev compo at the Assembly'05 party.

The goal of the game is to complete all the rooms successfully. The only way you can complete a room is to have 0 or positive points when you have tilted over all the red/green boxes.

Normally you cannot complete a room just by shooting at the boxes directly. You will get too many penalty points for using too many bullets. Instead you need to use the score multiplier feature. This can be done by bouncing the bullet from the wall before hitting the red/green boxes. This way the points you get will be multiplied by 10 (or 20 or 30, depending on how many bounces the bullet makes before hitting the boxes).

Note that the first shot is always free, regardless of weapon. A good way is to use either the shotgun or the bazooka for the first shot, since they are much more powerful that the revolver. After the first bullet you probably want to use the revolver, because you get much less penalty points for using the revolver bullets.
